The Swedish Haiku Society, a non-profit association, was established on 7 October 1999 in Stockholm.
The object of the Swedish Haiku Society is
- to spread knowledge about haiku in Sweden - to encourage writing of haiku poetry in the Swedish language - to support interest in haiku in Swedish education - to initiate and support lectures, conferences, seminaries and workshops dedicated to haiku - to contribute to and support translation of haiku to and from Swedish - to publish a regular review of haiku in Sweden. - to contribute to and support haiku anthologies - to establish a reference library of Swedish and foreign haiku literature - to include, in connection with the above-mentioned activities, metrical forms close to haiku, such as senryu, haibun, renga and tanka, when the situation so requires - to maintain contacts with Japanese as well as with other Haiku societies in the world
